"The Truth" About Psychic Readings
by Doria Gambino

Life provides constant flow of information to the observer whose awareness is tuned in to its symbolic messages. Messages come in many forms. Coincidences, synchronicities, a song playing on the radio that holds a special meaning for you at the moment or a call coming in from someone you were just thinking about are just a few of the way messages are transmitted to us. Nothing happens at random in life and no card appears or is chosen at random when using the tarot. Everyone, every place and everything generated a life energy force. We, as people, have the ability to create and change the energy we generate by the thoughts we think. We attract the experiences we have in life because it's energy vibrates to the same frequency as the energy generated by pure thoughts. The same holds true with the tarot.

We attract the cards in a card reading by the thoughts we are generating at the time of the reading and it's through our thoughts that the tarot reflects back to us in symbols what that creation is materializing. The tarot mirrors what is going on in our subconscious mind to our conscious mind through its symbols. It functions much like how all the people and events in our lives symbolically mirror such information, but not as visibly to our conscious mind as the tarot because with the tarot, in it's microcosmic form of our macrocosmic life, we can see a miniature movie of our life right before our very own eyes in microcosmic form

As a psychic reader, I am often asked questions about what a psychic reading is and how it works. I've also met many people who are afraid to have readings because they've heard horror stories about so-called readers who tell people they've been "cursed," or some such nonsense. Therefore, I'd like to take this opportunity to clear up some of the common misunderstandings and fears.

First of all, let's talk about what a reading is: A reading simply makes predictions about what is most likely to happen in the future based on your current circumstances. However, nothing is "set in stone." Only a fool would marry someone, quit a job, and buy a house, etc., just because a psychic said so. No outside person, psychic or otherwise, should be given the power to control your life; furthermore, even the best psychics can be wrong. So you should always, always make up your own mind. You have the power to make your own decisions, to change your life, and therefore to change your destiny.

More important than how to find a good reader, however, is how to avoid charlatans.

Which brings us to the second question: If we're all in charge of our own destinies, then why bother having a reading? The reason is because the more information we have about a given situation, the better our opportunities to make clear and accurate decisions. We all know about gathering information through the five physical senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. We all rely on these senses to gather information about the world around us. However, there is a wealth of additional knowledge available from beyond the physical realms, information about the past, present and future that cannot be found through "ordinary" means, so why not take advantage of this information as well? I personally believe that all human beings have the innate ability to access information psychically, and that professional readers are simply regular humans who have learned how to use their other senses. Readers are not all-powerful (and should never be viewed as such!) and are not even all that mysterious when you consider that psychic abilities are available to anyone who chooses to study and develop these abilities. It's like learning to play the piano: anyone willing to sit down and practice every day is eventually going to be able to make sense of the notes on the page and play a tune!

The information given in a reading can be used in many ways: as feedback, a way of broadening your perspectives, a means of clarifying conflicting or confusing thoughts or situations, as an additional avenue for seeking solutions and as a way of predicting probable outcomes. The purpose of a reading is to empower you with additional information and resources for creating your life, and to provide you with information about the past, present, and future that cannot be gathered through the five physical senses. It's simply one more tool you can use to help you find your path on the journey of life.

All right, now that we know what a reading is, lets talk about how to go about finding a psychic best suited to your needs. The best way is through word of mouth, by finding out about positive and helpful experiences your friends or family members may have had with different readers. If nobody you know is able to recommend someone, your next best bet is to contact local metaphysical shops since many of them hire and carefully screen reputable readers to work in their establishments.

More important than how to find a good reader, however, is how to avoid charlatans. Unfortunately, there are a number of destructive and greedy people calling themselves readers whose only goal is to separate you from your money. I have heard from dozens of clients about encounters with so-called psychics whose "readings" consist of the following script: "Someone has placed a curse on you, and you will have bad luck following you around for the rest of your life until this curse is removed. Of course, I have the ability to remove this curse for you...for a small fee." This is NOT a psychic reading; it is a con-job, cleverly designed to frighten people into paying large sums of money to avoid the "curse." I’ve encountered several people who have paid hundreds of dollars to have these non-existent curses "removed," and I even know of one woman who paid a so-called reader five thousand dollars to do a spell to make her ex-boyfriend come back to her. Needless to say, the ex never did come back. (In your search to find good readers, I recommend avoiding the "highway psychics," as I call them. I'm sure you've seen signs outside of buildings along various highways advertising psychic readings; places where you can just walk in off the street and have a reading. To be fair, there may indeed be honest, ethical "highway psychics" out there--but it seems that all of the horror stories I've heard about con artists were one of these places.)

I repeat that if you are going to go to a psychic, make sure you get a referral from someone you trust or who has a good reputation in the metaphysical community. An honest, ethical psychic whose only desire is to help people who are in need will be warm, caring, and spiritual--and their fees will be reasonable. They will not try to scare you or control you, nor will they demand additional payments in order to "protect" you from curses or do spells to guarantee that you will find true love, win the lottery, and so forth. They will not make decisions for you and tell you that you should take one particular course of action over another; they will simply give you the information and allow you to make the decision yourself. Furthermore, an ethical reader will never make predictions that someone is going to get sick or die.

To sum up, a reading should provide helpful, usable information that can help guide you in the months or years ahead. If any reader tries to make you feel intimidated, controlled, or frightened about your future, simply walk away and don't take anything they've said to heart. However, if you feel clearer and stronger after a reading, and if you feel the reader genuinely has your best interests at heart, then you're on the right track.
