Ace of Cups
This is the best card you can get in a spread in my opinion. It represents unconditional love, happiness, blessing from God, and being it is an Ace, it is a gift from God. The Holy Spirit is bringing the host into the love situation and is making it a very positive and loving experience. The gray sky indicates minor negativity or fogginess on your part as you may think "this is too good to be true." The lily pads will help things grow and bring abundance while the blue water, although having minor ripples in it, is very serene and loving since the water coming out of the Chalice followed by the blessing are causing these ripples.

Two of Cups
The Two of Cups is another lovely card, in fact most of the Cups are wonderful since they usually relate to love and relationships. There are two people on equal footing looking at each other lovingly. They are exchanging Cups (or perhaps vows) with each other. The house is in the background denoting happiness and good health, prosperity and joy. They are interested in a life together as a couple. This is a marriage card most often and the God/Goddess up above has sent strength and love to them to make them strong in this endeavor. She is wearing white (purity and goodness), and the blue tunic of serenity, sensitivity, femininity, and emotion. She also has a laurel wreath on her head indicating that she may have wanted this type of situation (finding Mr. Right) for a very long time and she has finally won her desires. He has a wreath of perhaps red roses indicating lasting love and dedication. He is wearing the yellow of masculinity and logical thinking and black which may be construed as trying to balance or handle any problems that may occur in their relationship. This is a happy and joyous card for a couple.

Three of Cups
The Three of Cups is one of those celebration cards again. Is it a wedding? A new love? Did you and your friends have something wonderful happen to you and the outcome was so refreshing and positive that you felt you had to celebrate? The fruit scattered around the ground indicates fruitfulness and abundance. The women's feet are not planted firmly on the ground so it is as if nothing but this time is important to them. Perhaps just the celebrating is important -- good times -- happy times. The blue sky shows the happiness, clear thinking and positive future that awaits them.

Four of Cups
Here we notice a blue sky and green ground card. The blue sky has a hand reaching out from the sky handing you a cup. Whenever you have a hand coming from the sky, it is a gift from God in that suit. Cups are love and happiness. If you look at the figure under the tree, it's as though he is crossing his arms in an attempt not to accept the gift. There are three other Cups in the lower left hand corner of the card so he knows what he has and is afraid of taking a risk. The figure (you) will then reject the gift at first glance, but after much consideration and reflecting, will eventually accept the gift offered. I always tell my clients that when this happens, they should think about it, but not to put too much energy into saying no when they will eventually say yes. He is wearing many colors: green of prosperity; the blue of serenity, emotion or sensitive; the red of desire and aggressiveness. He is unsure of his next move since his emotions are mixed on the situation. |

Five of Cups
The Five of Cups looks like a very depressed and sad card, and indeed it is. It is a card that represents "the widow" card at times, but mostly it represents someone who is feeling very depressed and lonely and is wrapping himself up in a black cape of despair and negativity. The sky is gray and this is adding to the desperation and sadness. The flowing river has small waves and currents leading to an unknown place. The castle is in the background, but in the distance. The figure is not paying attention to anything but the knocked over Cups spilling their love out into nothingness. It is someone who is mentally confused, sad, depressed, perhaps preferring to be alone, like a hermit because they don't want to face anyone at this time. The bridge can solve some problems if the figure would like to journey to the other side and make a change. The decision is his.

Six of Cups
The Six of Cups is an amusing card since there is obviously some sort of exchange of love and emotion going on. If you notice, the female is wearing a white glove covering her hand (or sincerity or truth) and if you look closely, you will notice that her yellow hair has another face inside of it indicating that she can be two faced or not showing her true self to the man. The light blue sky denotes happiness and clarity and all the buildings are yellow implying that much more logic and intelligence should be used in this situation as opposed to emotion. Each is wearing red denoting the desire, assertiveness and wanting of this relationship, and yet she is wearing yellow, like the rest of the card. All the Cups are upright housing a white lily denoting honesty and purity in greenery, the abundance and good luck surrounding the situation. There is a cement path off to the left of the card with a man walking away from the situation. Is he on more sturdy ground than these two? Is that a firmer path? A more secure path? Only the two can decide. |

The Seven of Cups
The Seven of Cups indicates many choices that have to be made. You have so many things to choose that it is making you immobile in some instances. The gray clouds are adding a bit of uncertainty or indecision to your choices, but the clear blue sky behind the clouds indicates that once you decide what you are going to do, the choices and answers you seek will be the right ones. |

Eight of Cups
The Eight of Cups is another one of those card with a space in between the suit . The male figure is the one who is filling in the hole this time. He is walking away. His red cape and shoes indicate that he desires something else or perhaps something more. He is looking for something that is probably unattainable. It is also called the divorce card. It's a card that is unhappy in it's current situation of love even though the Cups are up. He may be looking for someone else, perhaps have an affair, or trying to decide whether or not to remain married. He is walking on a small cliff and could possibly lose his footing and fall into the water. the water has rocks strewn across it and the mountains appear in the right and left of the card indicating that he is uncertain of the path ahead of him. The sun/moon combination indicates that he is seeing what he wants to see and hearing what he wants to hear, not necessarily the truth. The sun is resting with his eyes closed showing that he is not adding any vitality or energy to this situation. The figure is on a quest of his own and has to decide his own path. |

Nine of Cups
The Nine of Cups is a very nice card. You are satisfied with your life and the decisions you have made. You feel contented and that everything is going well in your life. All the Cups are filled with love and happiness behind you. The figure is in white with a red cap. The desire for happiness was very real to him and an important issue so he attained it. The white shows that he got it in an honest, pure, and truthful manner. It was also gotten by his intelligence which is represented by the yellow all around him. His feet are planted firmly on the yellow ground, so basically, all his triumphs and results came from intellect, and his analytical and logic abilities. The blue table cloth represents his emotional and inner sensitive nature surrounding him, making his completion of his plans in a very loving and sincere way. |

Ten of Cups
The Ten of Cups is the "happiness ever after" card. Everything is going well. The family is doing well, the children are happy; the figures are facing the house in the green abundance fields. The blue sky is cloudless and they are all standing on the firm, and balanced ground. The river going through their property is flowing nicely (good chi) without ripples of waves, so things are going smoothly in their emotional lives as well. The children are playing and having a good time. They are celebrating with their parents after a long road of hard work and responsibilities to get to this point. All will be wonderful. A well deserved ending or completion to a cycle. |

Page of Cups
The Page of Cups is a lovely card. As a Page it represents a start in a new relationship or matter according to the suit. Cups are love, so it most likely would be a loving relationship. The sky is gray which denotes uncertainty or mystery; the rolling waves can show lots of emotion and sensitivity. The blue in both the ocean behind him and in his clothes show a great deal of tenderness, emotion and compassion. He is looking at a fish which lives in the water (again amplifying the compassion) and it could also be a new start in a spiritual journey or inner knowledge coming your way. The young man is standing on a golden solid earth which denotes he needs to allow himself to think things through logically and unemotionally. He wants the love and happiness as is shown by his gaze of the fish and cup and notice his blue head covering. Looks like a fish too, doesn't it? He is dressed in blue, as we discussed, red of desire and conviction to get what he wants and the golden boots which are trying to ground him in his search. Nevertheless, it's a new adventure in the journey of life towards love.

Knight of Cups
Even though the Knight of Cups is dressed in armor, his disposition and posture doesn't preclude that he is in a warrior or war-like state. He is offering love or the opportunity of love to the Querent who must make a short metaphorical journey across the stream of indecision and sensitivity to cross to the other side where a mountain (or cliff) of goals and aspirations are ahead. The blue sky, although light blue, shows that things will turn out well and the gray horse the Knight is riding on is taking steps very carefully. Notice the wings on the helmet, almost like the Mercury who delivered messages for the Gods. Is a message arriving for you? Is there something you should know? Are you going to be invited to an affair? There are many possibilities, but I feel that the situation is involving love or being able to let it come into your life.

Queen of Cups
This lovely Queen of Cups is sitting on a throne of cement which usually means obstinate behavior and a very difficult time trying to convince her of anything other than her own opinion; however, if you notice, she is slipping off the throne and her foot is now in the water. She is putting herself into the emotional and unnerving path by having her foot stir the water. She is causing her own problems. Her other foot is on the land, but it is on rocks so she can't get a good footing. She is daydreaming into a covered cup of love and perhaps even sees visions of the future. This woman will help the Querent in some aspect of her life concerning an important love issue. The clear sky indicates the outcome will go well, but perhaps that the Querent must take action and get on with her life. She is dressed in white denoting her honesty and purity of heart and deed. The throne is on the multi-colored ground possibly denoting confusion or lack of direction. The cliffs in the background are indicative of an upcoming challenge. |

King of Cups
The King is sitting on a throne of cement floating upon the ocean. I always ask my students, "How long do you think that cement throne will float?" He displays much knowledge, power and resolve, is determined in his attitudes and opinions, yet he unwisely picked this location to sit. He is dressed in blue and yellow with a sash of red. The blue is a serene calming effect, happiness, sensitivity and joy. The yellow cape is representative of using his intellect rather than emotional part of his inner being. Could it be that this person needs balance between the two? His red sash and crown would indicate his desire for peace, harmony and balance. The gray sky is causing fogginess, a complete mystery, the unknown, surprises; the water is also rough denoting problems. There are things going on "beneath the surface" and behind his back that he must be made aware of. I conclude the serpent to be a negative force or event that will come into this person's life. The King's foot looks as if it is slipping into the water thereby creating his own problems while the other foot is placed sure footed or grounded on the cement. |
