The Eight of Cups is another one of those cards with a space in between the suit which indicates that the person for whom you are reading is usually the problem in whatever meaning the suit represents – in this instance Cups mean love, happiness, prosperity, joy, inner peace, guidance, strength, confidence and self esteem. He is walking away from a situation or looking for something else. This is a boredom or midlife crisis card as well as the Divorce card. The male figure is the one who is filling in the hole this time; however, if you are reading for a woman, this figure would represent her.
His red cape and shoes indicate that he desires something else or perhaps something more. He is looking for something that is probably unattainable or illusionary at best. It's a card that is unhappy in its current situation of romance even though the cups are filled with love of family, friends and a significant other. He is no longer satisfied with the status quo and wants to feel sexy, romantic, passionate and totally consumed by love “again.” He may be looking for someone to fill his bill of an exciting relationship or perhaps he would like to have an intimate encounter. The person “looking for more” may also be deciding whether or not to remain married or with his/her significant other. Remember, in astrology and tarot, if you live with someone that is considered marriage. He is walking on a small cliff and could possibly lose his footing and fall into the water. The water has rocks strewn across it and the mountains appear in the right and left of the card indicating that he is uncertain of the path ahead of him. The ominous black mountain in the future indicates that if he continues on this path, it will be one filled with upset, negativity, confusion, depression and sorrow. Why would you want to continue? The closed eyed sun indicates that he is not adding any positive energy or vitality to this situation. He is letting his feminine counterpart handle this one. Of course, the moon stands for illusion/delusion and living in a fantasyland. It also makes you see what you want to see and hear what you want to hear and usually does not make you face the truth. The figure is on a quest and has to decide his own path.
But remember this: if you go on this quest to find more excitement, fun and perhaps even harmony, you will realize that this new experience is not what you really wanted or needed and now that your significant other has been hurt by this indiscretion, you can be assured that you will fulfill the card’s destiny and traditional meaning of Divorce. Be positive of what you want as you may really get it and regret it later.
