If you gave as much time and attention to the joys of the world as to its ills, that by itself would be the creation of something new and bright.
The world is made from both sighs and ohs. The sigh is an outbreath, often to release the cares of the mind. It is rarely done without a prior period of some sort of mental anguish. But the ohs are done as an intake of breath, and often as the result of feeling wonder or surprise. There are both long and short breaths named thus -- the long or short sigh indicating the amount (gravity) of its decompressing thought. And the short sigh, rather a romantic one associated with the transitory glimpses of the wonders of the creation.
In the ohs are the breaths of joy and surprise. The intake of air that accompanies each is the equivalent of a rush into amazement, of seeing the universe anew. This newness isn't always comforting because in freshness can be excitement and pleasure or provocation and anxiety, but at least always the wish to behold the touch and quality of life.
So we talk ultimately of the breath, of the act of exhaling and inhaling, as not only life's usual and eternal engine of matter, but of life's emotional response to it. Sighs and ohs, representing deflation and thrill, are as much what life is built upon as is any block of solid stuff. Days are measured by their sighs as difficult, sad ones, and by their ohs as interesting, vital ones. You can build your own days by the openness and willingness you hold to taste of either.
