Phony in Phoenix
I am blessed to have been around extremely spiritual people and those who are ethical and moral since I turned towards metaphysics at age 14. Recently, I received a phone call saying that this man, let’s call him Ronny, bought my first tarot book, “Totally Tarot: How To Be A Tarot Detective,” and it was the best book he had ever read, and he had a ton of books. That was nice to hear as I really feel that my book is a useful tool for the beginner tarot consultant or experienced reader giving different perspectives to traditional interpretations.
I usually use the law of three – try three times for something. If it does not work, then give it up. The telephone number he had given me was wrong, but I tried and tried thinking that his phone was temporarily out of order and I wound up calling him 7 times. At that point, I had given up. I felt he would call again and he did leave a voice mail message saying that his new phone number was given to him incorrectly and if I so chose, I could now get back to him. He originally wanted to know if I taught in Phoenix and then decided he could have phone consultations with me for the additional information he required. That sounded intriguing since I had already taught a few dozen students that way and knew it worked well.
I called and we connected. What a bizarre experience. He rattled on about how into tarot he was and that he was guided by spirit and knew this was his path. His enthusiasm was delightful. He also said his girlfriend had left him because they weren’t on the same path. I discovered he was a Virgo with a Capricorn Ascendant, so right there, I knew he was in this for the money and prestige and would definitely not listen me if my advice didn’t match up with what he wanted to accomplish.
I asked how long he had been practicing the tarot and he said he was engrossed in it for 4 months. Four months! I told him even John Edward waited for approximately 10 years before going public and he found out he was gifted at 15 years of age. I suggested he make an appointment and he could do a mini reading for me so I could see where he was in his studies and then I could help him from there. He reluctantly agreed, but I knew he would not want to hear what I had to tell him – basically, he had to practice for much longer than 4 months and study and practice over and over again. But, I let it go.
The more I thought of this man, the more I prayed to God that something would happen so he wouldn’t be one of my students. I didn’t want my good and reputable name associated with his. My spirit guides told me he was trouble and when doing a spread on him, it indicated disastrous results.
Well, my prayers were answered. I received the most elementary email from him explaining that he did not have to prove himself to me, and he had contacted me against the wishes of his spirit guides. He sensed my tarot readings were very mechanical and that I had no gifts at all. He was crazy for contacting me. (Yeah, he was – crazy that is!!). He also said his spirit guides said that the photo I had on my site was of days gone by and that I was an old woman (well, 52 isn’t dead yet, is it?) and I laughed some more. The photo on the site is 10 months old, but hey, if I look like an old woman to his spirit guides, well, either they need glasses or he doesn’t have the psychic gifts he thinks he has. (Then again, maybe I do look old and decrepid. I haven't looked in the mirror yet this morning.)
He said we had Karma from the past and we would not work it out in this lifetime. (Ok…and it took him about 5 minutes on the phone with me to learn this? He is amazing, isn't he?) How sad for him as he thinks he is the new messiah for tarot! He lost a potential partner in life (good for her, she saw right through this fanatic) and will undoubtedly ruin many peoples’ lives with his misinformation and false abilities.
That is why I spread the news over the last three decades of teaching tarot, astrology and numerology, that most people who read a book or two and think they can read for others are more often than not charlatans. You can find these types of people at a Boardwalk or on major highways throughout many states. Be wary of readers if you do not know their background. More than likely, many of them do not have a background!! These are the people who give reliable and ethical readers a bad name. Ask friends or reputable metaphysical or new age shops who they might recommend. Positive experiences with people you know should lead you to a proper reader for you.
I ask you, would you want to go to a brain or heart surgeon who had only read about the surgical procedures in books for 4 months operating on you? I should hope not. Then why would anyone go to a tarot reader who has had no practical experience throughout the years to hone in on interpretation, psychic gifts or intuitive insight?
I am truly blessed to have students, clients and colleagues who are competent and moral readers. We need more of that kind of guidance in this world and not someone who is just after your money! Yes, we live in a materialistic world and we need money to survive, however, not at the expense of exploiting others.
I feel sorry for this Phony in Phoenix and his unsuspecting clients. I will pray that his victims will see right through him and not be taken in by a charlatan with no experience, no psychic gifts and misinformation.
